PROFILES transformation- Harvard Medical School

Challenge :

The IT department of Harvard Medical School created an open source tool to speed the process of finding researchers with specific areas of expertise for collaboration and professional networking.
IT department lacked the expertise to convert the HTML out of RDF XML messages. The objective was to make the transformation generic enough, so that the other universities can easily customize the source code according to their needs.

Solution :

To solve this problem we were able to provide the expertise in writing the modular XSLT’s which had complex logic, JavaScript and other components which were used in rendering the HTML page. XSLT’s used the functionality of XSLT 2.0 and XPATH functions. We also implemented CSS code to render UI correctly in different browser.

Result :

This helped the PROFILES team to successfully achieve their purpose of keeping the code simple and easily configurable, which in turn helped them to focus more on the content of the application. The key technologies used for the project were Altova® XML Spy, ASP. NET, XSLT2.0, XPath, JavaScript, CSS.
